Description

1849 Gold Dollar. Open Wreath, No L, Small Head. MS-65 (PCGS). OGH.
One of the loveliest examples of both the type and issue that we have handled in recent memory, this vivid reddish-orange Gem also sports an intense semi-prooflike finish from the dies. Fully struck, expertly preserved and with eye appeal to spare, even the most discerning numismatists will be impressed with this premium quality coin. This is the famous introductory variety of the denomination without the designer's initial L (for Longacre) on the bust truncation. Bold repunching on three obverse stars further confirms the variety.
PCGS# 7501. NGC ID: 25B7.
PCGS Population: 39; 16 finer (MS-67+ finest).
From the Kohler Wisconsin Collection.

Estimate: $3400
