1874-CC Liberty Head Double Eagle. EF-40 (PCGS).
Medium yellow gold with traces of original luster around the obverse stars. The fields do not show the usual barrage of handling marks, just light ticks and lines from normal circulation. Scarcer across the board than its mintage of 115,085 pieces suggests. As the Bowers reference notes: "The 1874-CC double eagle is the earliest year for which Carson City coins are readily available in the marketplace, although it is hardly in the common category."
