Description

GERMANY. Empire. Battle of Antwerp/Kaiser Wilhelm II Silver Medal, 1914. PCGS SPECIMEN-62.
Zetzmann-4038 ( RR ). Diameter: 33mm. By Carl Drentwett in Augsburg. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Wilhelm left, wearing helmet surmounted by eagle; Reverse: Civic coat-of-arms of Antwerp within scroll. A very seldom encountered yet important offering, this medal is endowed with well cameoed fields and satiny devices. Thoroughly argent save for a slight russet iridescence at certain angles. One of the early conflicts in World War I, Germany invaded Belgium and laid siege to Antwerp, eventually causing the fall of the city and the garrison there, and even taking some Belgians into forced service throughout the duration of the war.

Estimate: $150.00- $300.00
