AKARNANIA. Anaktorion. AR Stater (8.50 gms), ca. 320-280 B.C. NGC VF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Edge Cuts.
HGC-4, 761; Pegasi-49 (same dies). Obverse: Pegasos flying right; ivy leaf below; Reverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; monogram and plow behind. A RARE and interesting Stater. The broad, round flan showcases a full strike. Some mint brilliance shimmers on the fields beneath the mottled gray tone, making this a particularly handsome coin for the grade assigned. The reverse symbol for this type is misidentified in Pegasi as an "ivy leaf" due to the compact flan of the plated example limiting the amount of detail visible. This coin, a die match for the plate coin, has a broad flan that clearly shows the symbol to be a plow.
