1820/19 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-102. Rarity-1. Curl Base 2. MS-61 (NGC).
Two obverse dies were used in the creation of the 1820/19 overdates, both representing distinct Guide Book varieties: the O-101 has a Square Base 2 in the date, the O-102 has a Curl Base. Rich mauve-gray patina with splashes of coppery-amber and deeper graphite gray on the obverse and a similar but more even colorful array on the reverse, this lustrous Mint State overdate has a wonderful look. Razor sharp in strike, the details were fully rendered by a forceful blow from the screw press. Overall this is a wonderful, and pleasing example of this always popular 1820/19 overdate variety.
