1859 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Breen-6245. Type I Reverse. MS-62 (PCGS).
In 1859 a new reverse hub was introduced and in 1859, 1860, and 1861 coins were struck using both the Old and New reverse dies. In 1859, which featured the lowest mintage of the denomination with only 39,364 quarter eagles of both types were coined, with the Old or Type I Reverse being the rarer of the two, especially in Mint State. This is an attractive example with original golden skin, a decent strike, and overall surfaces that are clean for the assigned grade.
