GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1660-62). London Mint; mm: crown/-. Charles II. PCGS AU-55.
S-3308; KM-406. Weight: 5.92 gms. A RARE Shilling type emitting from the First Hammered Issue of Charles II and not often offered on the market in any condition, let alone in this near-Mint State preservation. The surfaces are lightly glossy and permeated by somber mauve toning, with the peripheral areas displaying a touch of sea-green coloration. Minor evidence of circulation is apparent over the portrait, with the reverse nearly as made and exhibiting ample luster in the fields. Bested in the PCGS census by a sole example in AU-58, which realized $6,900 including buyer's premium in our January 2022 auction.
