PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, 323-283 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (14.16 gms), Alexandreia Mint, ca. 294-285 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Scratches, Graffito.
cf. CPE-173 (controls); cf. Svor-257 (same). Obverse: Diademed head right, wearing aegis around neck; tiny Δ behind ear; Reverse: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, P above A and monogram. Despite the noted marks, a pleasing example with little in the way of actual wear and an attractive tone. The control on this example, though very similar to Lorber's 173, appears here as an A above an MΠ monogram, rather than the expected monogram that is a composite of those letters.
