No. 4338. Plate B. A rare Confederate issue produced by the Southern Bank Note Company of New Orleans. This note is part of the 5,798 issued for the type and denomination and represents one of the first notes issued from Richmond and a degree of workmanship that was soon lost in the Confederate States following the capture of New Orleans early in 1862. Moneta with scales at left, Pallas and Ceres at center with agricultural and industrial scene in the background, portrait of George Washington at right. Contemporary annotations are likewise present on the back which state that interest was paid out on September 25, 1861.
