1787 Connecticut Copper Whatsit. About Uncirculated.
112.8 grains. Glossy olive-brown with traces of darker mahogany patina. Very pleasing and nicely accomplished, almost certainly by the same hand that produced the 1786-dated example in the previous lot as these are stylistically similar and both have the distinctive six-pointed star in Liberty's shield that feels like a bit of a signature by the artisan. Quite choice with a single natural flan flaw near the effigy's hair ribbons. Published in the April 1978 Colonial Newsletter, submitted by Harold W. Hauser, of Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) sale of the Harold Oechsner Collection, September 1988, lot 1225 (part); Robert Martin.
