Description

Dazzling Cameo Proof 1912 Nickel
1912 Liberty Head Nickel. Proof-67+ Cameo (NGC).
Beautiful surfaces are essentially brilliant on the obverse, lightly toned in iridescent sandy-silver around the periphery on the reverse. Both sides are fully struck with a virtually pristine appearance that will please even the most discerning numismatist. The 1912 is the final Proof in the regular issue Liberty Head nickel series, the mintage 2,145 pieces. Survivors are scarce in an absolute sense, but when offered, "are usually very attractive," as observed by Q. David Bowers in his Guide Book of Shield and Liberty Head Nickels (2006). These factors help to explain why the 1912 is one of the more desirable type issues in this Proof series. For the collector assembling an ultimate set, only a top-pop condition rarity such as this exquisite Proof-67+ Cameo specimen will do.
PCGS# 83910. NGC ID: 278N.
NGC Census: 3; 0 finer in this category. The corresponding PCGS Population is 1/0.
