FRANCE. Kingdom. White Metal Obverse Cliché or Trial for Écu de 6 Livres, ND (ca. 1785/6). Paris Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS MS-61.
cf. Guilloteau-95-6 (for a similar obv. in silver & copper). By B. Duvivier. A VERY RARE and unusual curiosity, this example differs slightly from the most customary obverse design of Duvivier, in that the amount of hair curls below the truncation is reduced. Additionally, the artist's signature appears merely as "DUVIVIER" and without the "F" ( Latin for fecit, or "made [it]" ) after.
From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Hans Schulman on 4 September 1952). Ex: Howard D. Gibbs Collection # 1159. Ex: Virgil M. Brand Collection (as "Ferrari-Brand," Schulman - ca. 1932) Lot # 2760. Ex: Baron Phillipe de Ferrari la Renotière Collection.
