FRANCE. Consulate. Bronze Medallic Trial, Year 8 (1799/1800). Paris Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Brown.
Maz-616 var. (dotted edge); Ciani-527. Plain edge. By P. Gengembre. Weight: 9.38 gms. A method of striking trial by Gengembre, this particular curiosity features an obverse that employs mostly punches for "7"s and "8"s arranged in various fashions. No discernable significance can be observed from their concentric nature, so it may be that the artist was merely attempting to create a design out of just a few easily repeatable punches. EXTREMELY RARE and rather exotic.
From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Hans Schulman on 24 October 1952). Ex: Howard D. Gibbs Collection.
