1879 Grand National Bazar of the German and English Academy Medal. Musante GW-Unlisted, Baker-Unlisted. White Metal. AU-53 (PCGS).
32.3 mm. Neatly pierced for suspension. Deeply toned with scattered light marks. Apparently an extremely rare medal that does not seem to have been known to Baker, Rulau and Fuld or Musante. This was made from the same rarely seen die by John Marr used on the Washington and Lincoln medal cataloged by Musante as GW-769, and Baker as number 231. According to the Rulau-Fuld revision, just ten examples of B-231 were struck. Perhaps the number was even smaller for this issue. We only have a single record in our archives for the better documented B-231, which was in Baker's own collection and realized $2,640 in our November 2019 sale, but this is the first we have seen of this type.
PCGS# 930555.
