1787 Fugio Cent. Pointed Rays. Newman 9-P, W-6755. Rarity-3. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. EF-45 (PCGS).
160.1 grains. Boldly struck and nicely centered on a choice planchet. Both sides are richly toned in autumn-brown with good gloss to a hard texture. A few swirls of ancient surface build up around the reverse periphery are mentioned solely for accuracy, as they hardly detract and further confirm the coin's originality. Reverse die state is late, Newman D, and the myriad cracks are sharp and show clearly. Newman 9-P is one of the more common mostly non-Bank of New York hoard varieties, though a dozen pieces were recorded in the hoard as of 1948.
PCGS# 878081. NGC ID: 2B8E.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier ex Christopher B. Young, July 2004.
