1787 Fugio Cent. Pointed Rays. Newman 15-Y, W-6915. Rarity-2. STATES UNITED, 8 Pointed Star on Label. EF-45 (PCGS).
142.6 grains. Really a lovely example of this eagerly sought Newman number, both sides exhibit a tinge of olive on otherwise warm golden-brown surfaces. Both sides are smooth and hard with neither significant planchet flaws nor distracting post-production marks. The strike is nicely centered, just a bit tight to 10 o'clock on the reverse, with virtually all major design elements sharp for the grade. On the reverse label, the upper star is crisp, lower one faint, yet partially discernible. Finer than the better Boyd-Ford piece and arguably a candidate for high Condition Census. No fully Mint State specimens of Newman 15-Y are known, just a few nice AU coins and a handful of choice EFs. This deserves to be counted among their number and should easily find a place in another advanced collection.
