1787 Miller 15-S Rarity
The Fatal Break
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 15-S, W-2915. Rarity-5+. Mailed Bust Left, CONNECT, INDL. VG Details--Edge Repaired (PCGS).
93.1 grains. A distinctive and immediately recognizable variety due to the prominent internal break seen at the right reverse. This is the only pairing for this reverse known, so if it is present, it's almost certainly a 15-S. Granular olive in the fields with the higher areas of the design slightly smoother and more mahogany brown in tone. The flan is flawed in several places, including at 12 o'clock where a small half-moon could be mistaken for a puncture, but it appears natural. Surfaces are lightly abraded as well, especially along the rim which explains the qualifier by PCGS. The date is complete, and its flanking cinquefoils are visible, as is INDL, two distinctive features of this reverse in addition to the prominent break.
PCGS# 685109.
