SES ÉLEVES DES AMIS 1880-1905 right. Rim: Stamped "BRONZE" with Paris Mint cornucopia hallmark. Domingo Emilio Noelting (1851-1922) was a French chemist born in the Dominican Republic. After earning his doctoral degree in 1875 from the University of Zurich, he worked for several industrial dye manufacturers, including the Renard, Villet and Bunaud in Lyon, and the Monnet dye factory in La Plaine near Geneva. In 1880 he became director of the Alsatian École municipale de chimie industrial in Mulhouse, and in 1892 was elected to the chemistry division of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. This medal was presented in 1905 by his students and friends at the 25th anniversary of his career there; he was later expelled from Mulhouse by German authorities for as a French sympathizer during WWI, living once again in Switzerland.
