Description

FRANCE. Duo of Paul Berger Bronze Medals (2 Pieces), 1907. Paris Mint. Average Grade: UNCIRCULATED.
Two identical Medals, weights: 148.6 gms, diameters: 70mm. By JC Chaplain. Obverse: Portrait bust facing left of Berger in mustache, PAUL BERGER around; Reverse: Olive branch at left, inscription indicating this medal was produced by his students and friends to right, A PAUL BERGER DE L'ACADEMIE DE MEDECINE CHIRURGIEN DES HOPITAUX TENON LARIBOISIERE BEAUJON PROFESSEUR DE MEDICINE OPERATOIRE A LA FACULTE DE PARIS DE CLINIQUE CHIRURGICALE A L'HOPITAL DE LA PITIE DE CLINIQUE CHIRURGICALE A L'HOPTIAL NECKER SES ELEVES SES AMIS 1907. Rim: Stamped "Bronze" with Paris Mint cornucopia hallmark. Paul Berger (1845-1908) was an accomplished French surgeon in practice at the Hôpital Tenon, Hôpital Lariboisier, and Hôpital Beaujon in Paris, and a Professor of Clinical Surgery and Pathology in the Faculté de médecine de Paris in association with the further Paris Hôpital de la Pieie and Hôpital Necker. His name is given to the "Berger's operation", a method of axillary amputation, and contributed to knowledge of suturing techniques for hernia and the intestines. References: - Deneken, J. C.
