Description

GREAT BRITAIN. Duo of Great Exhibition Bronze Medals (2 Pieces), 1851. Victoria. Average Grade: UNCIRCULATED.
BHM-2463; Eimer-1462. Two identical Medals. Diameters: 44mm. By William Wyon. Obverse: Bust facing left of Prince Albert, H.R.H. PRINCE ALBERT PRESIDENT OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION around; Reverse: a globe topped by a dove of peace delineating each of the continents inscribed, respectively, "America", "Europe", "Africa", "Asia". Globe is surrounded by a laureate wreath and spanned by a banderole indicating "Exhibitor", EXHIBITION OF THE WORKS OF INDUSTRY OF ALL NATIONS. MDCCCLI. EXHIBITOR around. Stephen Parks was a great admirer of the Great Exhibition of 1851, including its historic "Gothic Hall" reflecting Augustus Welby Pugin's posthumous influence.
