Description

GREAT BRITAIN. Edward VIII and Alexandra's Visit to City of London Bronze Medal, 1902. Edward VII. UNCIRCULATED.
Eimer-1874. Weight: 242 gms; diameter 76mm. By unknown. Obverse: Conjoined busts of king and queen facing left, IN HONOUR OF THE VISIT OF THEIR MAJESTIES KING EDWARD VII AND QUEEN ALEXANDRA TO THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF LONDON, 25 OCT[OBER] 1902 around; Reverse: Royal couple seated on left, facing right, on raised dais with chairs surmounted with the arms of the City of London. Female figure facing the monarch to her left, draped in classical robes and mural crown, and offering a welcome address from manuscript in left hand. Behind her a herald of fame blowing a long trumpet at right atop suggestions of clouds. In background the Guildhall topped by the royal standard. Below the scepter and mace crossed, representing the royal and civic powers, and to lower left a myrtle branch with banderole bearing Latin motto "The love and fidelity of the citizens [of London]", CIVIVM AMOR ET FIDES around. Sold with original display case. Struck in Commemoration of the Coronation visit of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra to the City of London on 25th October 1902, given by the Corporation of the City of London. A mintage of 300 only.
