MEXICO. Charles IV Silvered Bronze Proclamation Medal, 1789. Mexico City Mint. Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Unc Details.
Grove-C-26a. Obverse: Garlanded bust right; Reverse: Seminude Mercury (representing commerce) standing facing, head right, holding winged caduceus and extending arm to crowned consulate coat-of-arms to right; implements of the arts and sciences around, ship in background. Lightly toned with very thin instances of tooling appearing on the sides. For the sake of clarity, Syd's ticket mentions this piece as being silver, while PCGS has recorded it as silver. We believe the former to be correct, however without inspection outside the holder, it is difficult to determine conclusively.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Ex: Coin Galleries (3/2009) Lot # 1151.
