Description

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO. Government of Trinidad and Tobago. 20 Dollars, 1.1.1943. P-10. PMG Very Fine 30.
A very challenging type from Trinidad & Tobago seen here in very collectible Very Fine condition with fresh color and a good appearance for the technical grade. PMG states minor restoration, but it must have been done expertly, as it is not immediately evident what part of the note has been restored. This is the highest denomination of this important series that can be found in issued format. A 100 Dollar issue was prepared (and is known in specimen format) but if it was ever issued no issued examples have never been seen. In the early 1940s, Trinidad and Tobago, then a British colony, played a crucial role in the Allied war effort during World War II, providing strategic naval bases and contributing significantly to the Caribbean economy through its oil production. While service members brought home notes, they were typically the $1 denomination (and sometimes $2 or $5), but the $10 and $20 were never brought back in quantity to the United States, no doubt because of the considerable investment required to do so. This example surpassed in the PMG population report by just two finer examples. PMG Comments "Minor Restoration."

Estimate: $2000.00 - $4000.00
