Description

POLAND. Bank Polski. 100 Zlotych, 15.8.1939. P-85s. CM#85W. Specimen. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
Not to be confused with other specimen varieties sometimes seen of this unissued type, this specimen has all zero serial numbers and a "CANCELLED" perforation. We have never seen this particular type in this format. It appears this was made internally for the archive of Thomas de la Rue and it may be unique or nearly so. An iconic series that was designed by French artists on behalf of the government-in-exile of Poland and printed at various printers, these were meant to be issued after the end of World War II, but when that finally came it was decided to destroy the series. It is believed 1,000 sets of "issued" notes were saved, although we can't confirm that number and it seems rather high based on the number of auction appearances of full sets. Regardless, specimens such as this example are much scarcer with most specimen varieties known from only one or two examples. A wonderful opportunity for the Polish specialist not to be missed.

Estimate: $6000.00 - $10000.00
