A nice pair of a fully printed remainder of this unissued design and a progressive proof of the same. While the progressive proof is seen with some regularity the fully printed remainder is much scarcer. It carries the portrait of Moise Thsombe, who led the secessionist state of Katanga in the early 1960s. Even though it lasted relatively briefly Katanga issued two series of bank notes, stamps and even a commemorative gold coin. It rejoined the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1963 and Thsombe would eventually become Prime Minister of the Congo, before he was exiled to Algeria, where he would pass away in 1969 under what some believed were mysterious circumstances.
