In the early 20th century the Azores used similar notes to those used on the Portuguese mainland, but with an overprint and in different colors. This specimen printed by the Banco de Portugal lacks the overprint but is seen in the blue color of the Azores issue. Handwritten printer's annotations confirm that this is a specimen of the Azores issue. Because of their limited population notes from the Azores are much scarcer than those with the same designs from Portugal. As can be expected for a specimen that was actively used in the design process this has some light handling, but also retains strong originality and eye-appeal for the type.
