Description

The Beginnings of Tibetan Coinage
(t) CHINA. Tibet. "Vartula" Tangka, ND (ca. 1763-64). Ch'ien-lung (Qianlong). PCGS AU-55.
L&M-Unlisted; K-Unlisted; KM-C-5.2; WS-0241A/0241B. An EXTREMELY RARE Tibetan issue, and one that quite possibly represents the earliest output from Tibet, this exceptional example offers a very bold and well executed strike along with quality that seemingly even RARER than the type itself. Lightly toned, with a charming amber-olive nature accentuating the gunmetal gray and ample remaining brilliance. No doubt one of the finest of the emission extant, and one that represents an incredible opportunity for the specialist of the series.

(t) On September 1, 2019, the United States enacted new tariffs on collector's items of Chinese origin, including bullion and numismatic coins and banknotes.
