1931-S Mercury Dime. MS-65 FB (PCGS).Wisps of pale champagne-pink and russet iridescence drift over lustrous, smartly impressed surfaces. The final San Francisco Mint dime produced prior to 1935, the effects of the Great Depression kept most examples of the 1931-S from entering circulation at the time of issue. As such, it was one of the Mercury dime issues that could be obtained at face value directly from the Treasury Department in 1932 and 1933. Examples enjoyed a wider release beginning in 1934, the enticingly low mintage of 1,800,000 pieces resulting in considerable hoarding on the part of contemporary numismatists. While Mint State survivors are generally obtainable, as such, Full Bands coins are scarce, especially with the Gem surface preservation offered here.PCGS# 4987. NGC ID: 23J9.
