Description

CHINA--EMPIRE. Imperial Bank of China. 1 Tael, 14.11.1898. P-A40a. S/M#C293-2b. PMG About Uncirculated 50.
Peking, serial number 48828. This high grade 1 Tael exhibits true visual quality and well above average condition than usually encountered. This scarce and highly collected Tael issue note doesn't always turn up in public auctions. It features a deep blue frame and orange under-printing with red protectors. There are strong overprints in both the serial numbers and signature. The back has a black circular seal at upper center and similar styling as the face. This example will certainly enhance any comprehensive collection of Chinese banknotes. The Imperial Bank of China was the first Chinese bank to operate under Western norms and as such this note has great historical as well as collectible value. PMG Comments "Minor Tear."

Estimate: $2000.00 - $4000.00
