Description

Fabulous 1935 Melbourne Proof Set
AUSTRALIA. Proof Set (2 Pieces), 1935. Melbourne Mint. Both PCGS Gold Shield Certified.
Mintage: 100 pieces each. An immaculate set that clearly sat together for a prolonged period time undisturbed exhibiting a needle sharp strike leaving nothing to the imagination. The details of each piece are crisp and clear with every detail fully struck up and well defined. The smooth surfaces display an absolutely lovely combination of chocolate brown with hints of original mint red on the reverses highlighted by a beautiful multi-color iridescent sheen that adds tremendous eye appeal. A highly sought after and desirable set destine for a fine cabinet of the most discerning collector. 1) Penny. PCGS PROOF-66 Brown Gold Shield. KM-23. Single finest certified of the "Brown" designation only surpassed by a single example designated "Red Brown" on the PCGS population report. 2) 1/2 Penny. PCGS PROOF-66 Brown Gold Shield. KM-22. Single finest certified of the "Brown" designation only surpassed by a single example designated "Red" on the PCGS population report. According the famed British Colonial collector and author Jerome Remick, the proof coins from 1916 to 1954 exist for most years but were struck in very limited quantities and usually distributed "per favour".
