Description

KUSHAN: Huvishka, ca. 155-187, AV dinar (7.97g), G-—, Huvishka seated, cross-legged, above the clouds, holding long scepter // the lunar deity Mao standing, holding short sword and extending his right arm forward, Kushan tamgha to left, with the lower portion curved, lightly cleaned, VF to EF, RRR. The obverse is from the same die as Göbl-299, which has the reverse of Nana. Another example from the same obverse die is paired with Ardoksho on the reverse (Donum Burns #275). The curled bottom of the tamgha is characteristic of the Mao and several other coinages of this series (Göbl-B), but infrequent on all other series.
