ERITREA: Vittorio Emanuele III, 1900-1945, AR tallero, 1918-R, KM-5, created in 1918 as a trade coin imitating and competing with the Maria Theresa thaler, a popular coin amongst locals and Arab traders around the Red Sea, EF, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection. The tallero (= thaler) or rial was the currency of Eritrea between 1890 and 1921. It was worth five lire and was subdivided into ten decimi.
