GOLDEN HORDE: Jani Beg, 1341-1357, AR dinar (2.67g), Baghdad, AH7(5)8, A-2028, about 15% flat surfaces; clear mint and fully legible first and last digits of the date, F-VF, RRR. Struck by the Jalayrid ruler Shaykh Uways I, just before his own name was placed on his coinage in 759. All other Jalayrid coins dated 758 and earlier are anonymous, and it is likely that Shaykh Uways recognized Jani Beg as his nominal overlord in anticipation of imminent invasion by either the Golden Horde troops or others seeking power after the demise of the Ilkhans earlier that same year.
