SPAIN: BARCELONA: AE medal (29.37g), 1892, Forrer VII, 164, 38mm bronze medal for the Catalan Volunteers by Castells, Catalonia arms within laurel wreath with DIPUTACION PROVINCIAL DE BARCELONA around // CAMPAÑA / DE / CUBA on central rectangular scrolled cartouche with agave plants above and below, with VOLUNTARIOS - CATALANES - 1869 around, with crown attachment and yellow and red ribbon (mostly disintegrated) with bar in plush case, brown, plain edge, UNC, RR. This medal apparently references the Catalan Volunteers who helped put down an insurrection led by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in Cuba in 1868. Our search on the internet yielded no examples.
