Description

AYYUBID: al-Muhasin Baha al-Din Yusuf, ca. 1216-1218, AE fals (1.90g), Halab, ND, A-838M, apparently the first known example of this ruler/governor, Fine, RRR. Al-Muhasim who lived 1145-1234, was appointed "qadi " (judge) at Halab (Aleppo) upon the death of Saladin in AH589, and may have achieved the right to have copper coins in his name, perhaps circa AH613 (the death of al-Zahir of Aleppo) or 615 (death of Abu Bakr of Egypt and Damascus), likely during the brief period between the death of one of these Ayyubid rulers and the confirmation of that ruler’s successor. Cf. Wikipedia under "Baha al-Din ibn Shaddad ".
