Description

GHAZNAVID: Sultan al-Dawla Arslanshah, 1116-1117, AV dinar (4.38g) (Ghazna), AH510, A-V1650, weak date, but confirmed by other known examples; this is the second series, with a circle of pelleted annulets around the field on both sides, superb strike, EF, RRR, ex Yusuf Alokozay Collection. Until this collection became available, no gold coin were known for Arslanshah, who only ruled for a very short time. His dinars are dated either AH509 (only 2 or 3 known) or more commonly AH510, the the majority of all his dinars have the date off flan or illegibly engraved.
