About Extremely Fine.
Hugo von Ziegler (1890–1966) was a distinguished lawyer and art historian whose significant contributions lay primarily in art history and collecting. From the 1920s to the 1960s, he assembled a remarkable collection of 16th-century Swiss drawings, coins, and silverware, with a particular focus on artworks by artists from his native Schaffhausen. Although his expertise was firmly rooted in art history, his numismatic collection was noteworthy, featuring a range of significant coins. Among these, a spectacular aureus of Crispina was notably sold by Hess-Divo in 2015, highlighting the exceptional quality of his numismatic holdings. His art collection is represented in prestigious institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen.
