Romano-Egyptian Alabaster Vessel with Baboons
Roman Period, 30 B.C.-323 A.D. A carved alabaster bowl with discoid base, squat body with frieze of seven raised baboons, sacred to the god Thoth, in profile to the outer face. 610 grams, 11.7 cm wide (4 5/8 in.). Acquired by a West London gentleman's grandfather before 1970. Essex gallery, early 2000s. [No Reserve]
