Ancient Roman Republican Coins - C Valerius Flaccus - Eagle and Standards AR Denarius
82 B.C. Massalia mint (by decree while Flaccus was proconsul in Gaul). Obv: winged and draped bust of Victory right with 'P' control symbol behind. Rev: C VAL FLA (VAL in monogram) left and IMPERAT right of legionary eagle flanked by two standards inscribed H (hastati) and P (principes) respectively with EX - S C across lower fields. Craw. 365/1; Syd. 747; RSC Valeria 12; Sear 288. 2.95 grams. Property of a Cambridgeshire, UK, gentleman. [No Reserve]
