Description

1st-3rd century A.D.. Fragment of a vessel with integral dolphin modelled in the round with hatched fins, pellet eyes, looped tail for attachment of a cord or light chain. Cf. Christie's London, A Peaceable Kingdom: The Leo Mildenberg Collection of Ancient Animals, 26th-27th October, 2004, pp.219-220, for similar. 94 grams, 72 mm (2 7/8 in.).

Acquired in Europe in 1990. European private collection. (For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price.)
