Description

Greece, Lucania, Velia, Didrachm - EXTREMELY RARE Extremely rare Lucan didrachma (also called nomos), with a depiction of a lion on the reverse, the symbol of the city of Velia. Variety with lion facing left with the letter Θ below it, unusual on the auction market.

Obverse: head of Athena facing right in a helmet decorated with a griffin, on the back the letter Θ

Reverse: lion walking to the left, below the letter Θ, YEΛHTΩN in exergue

Diameter 20 mm, weight 7.45 g
